cast and crew

spent yesterday catching up on the workplace gossip. which recently got churned again by a monday night get together that i missed out on. sometimes it is like watching a soap opera. and i am glad to be the spectator. a coworker liked it to high school. so during a few dead hours we came up with the roster of high school personas. i got cast as the drama girl, which was pretty far from the truth in actual high school, so i was fine trying on a new skin. seems like another life back then anyway.

sunday night

was reading by lamplight last night when heard six gunshots nearby, followed by screaming and eventually sirens. my building has the strange way of clarifying noises on street level, so it is hard to properly gauge how far away something might be. but as the other neighbors opened windows and murmured nearby, i assumed it was probably at the regency across the street. had to wait til morning for news. another city first. and not a pleasant one.

Nine people were wounded Sunday night when someone opened fire during a fight outside a concert in San Francisco, authorities said today.

All the victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The incident happened outside the Regency Ballroom at 1290 Sutter St. shortly before 10:15 p.m. Sunday. A fight broke out among four or five men, and another man walked up to the crowd, pulled out a gun and began shooting, authorities said.

Nine people were struck by gunfire, shrapnel or broken glass, authorities said. They were treated at San Francisco General Hospital and Kaiser hospitals in Vallejo and Oakland.

The gunman fled in a car. No arrests have been made.

Police did not report any problems inside the sold-out concert, KMEL House of Soul.

tidal wave

have been going back through past blog entries to cull some shorts for my prose submission. and all this weeding and nostalgia has made me a little melancholy. so many changes in the past year - it is amazing. and while i feel emotionally in a better place, the big life questions do still linger. that and thoughts of so many wonderful friends whose presence i miss having on a regular basis in my life. it's a bit draining, all this time traveling. so, i think i might have to take a break. handle things in pieces. and make a few phone calls....

michelle

it became a game. to know her.

facts were earned with careful navigation of the mine field. no information was voluntary, no feeling announced like a banner in the sky. her parents were dead. that was month two. her half sister lived up north. month four. her mother raised horses. month five. each iron wrought piece placed carefully in it's jagged little corner. still an incomplete picture. what about adolescence? and love and loss? any slope to this plane pointing toward the future? it was hard to relate to half a person. the fragments of a friendship just scattered about. it felt disjointed. the distance.

like looking in a mirror of my former self.
